Chromoblastomycosis (Chromomycosis) is a chronic fungal infection, often
localized to the distal parts of the extremities.
Histology
The epidermal changes are characterized by psudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia
and intraepidermal abscessees. There are tuberculoid and suppurative granulomas in the subjacent dermis. There
is a background of chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate and occasaional eosinophils. Round, thick-walled, golden brown
yeast organisms are present in some of the multinucleated giant cells.
